Following the vacancy announcement last autumn, seven finalist-candidates for the post of EHU Rector were invited to the EHU campus in mid-December for interviews and discussions with the Search Committee, and EHU faculty members and students.
"We had hoped to conclude the search process by 1 March, but the exchange of opinions still goes on," says Governing Board Chair, Daniel Tarschys. A meeting of the Governing Board (GB) will be held later in March, at which point the GB hopes to reach a decision on this important search.
Meanwhile, the accreditation of the EHU has been extended for another three years on condition of continued improvements in some areas.
"As the world's only university in exile, with many students and faculty members commuting between Belarus and Lithuania, we are well aware of our structural challenges. But we are also firmly committed to meeting international standards for teaching and research," stated Daniel Tarschys.
Precious support to EHU is provided by the Lithuanian government, the European Commission, the Nordic Council of Ministers, as well as several governments and foundations. We wish to work closely with our donors to provide an excellent higher education based on European values.
