On April 26-28 undergraduate students of European Humanities University’s (EHU) programs “World Politics and Economics”, “Media and Communication” and “Cultural Heritage and Tourism” and accompanied by the faculty of EHU Academic Department of Social and Political Sciences visited Vilnius City Municipality and Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the first visit to Vilnius City Municipality EHU students were acquainted with the structure, functions and other aspects of Vilnius City Municipality's daily work. After excursion and presentation EHU students met the youngest Member of the Vilnius City Council Mr Adomas Bužinskas, who shared his experience of work in this institution and anti-corruption activities, foreign citizens integration programs in Vilnius and answered students’ questions.
During the second educational visit EHU students and faculty attended Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Republic of Lithuania and met Deputy Director of the MFA’s Policy Planning Department Mr Artūras Gailiūnas. Mr Gailiūnas presented history of Lithuania's diplomatic service, strategic directions of MFA work and shared his diplomatic experience gained during his service in Geneva and Rome. Diplomat answered students’ questions about the heritage of the Great Duchy of Lithuania and current Lithuania’s foreign policy towards Belarus and Eastern Partnership member-countries.
According to EHU Department of Social and Political Studies lecturer Dr Tatsiana Chulitskaya: “The educational visits of such kind help students acknowledge what politics is, not in an abstract, but rather in a practical dimension. It is crucial for young Belarusians to see open-minded politicians and officials who, unlike those in Belarus, are ready for discussions and questions. Moreover, there is a good example of citizen activism when university graduates can influence the work of public institutions”.
