In cooperation with the Nordic Summer University (NSU), EHU will coordinate a joint three-year study circle on Human Rights and International Relations. This cooperative venture was supported by the NSU during the 2014 summer session in Iceland.
The project is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2015 and will be hosted by EHU in Vilnius. The study circle will be conducted by Dr. Mogens Chrom Jacobsen (Denmark), author of the recent book Three Conceptions of Human Rights, and Dr. Olga Breskaya from EHU.
Dr. Breskaya, head of EHU's Research Division and chair of the organizing committee of the NSU summer session 2015 in Lithuania, said, “This is a great opportunity for EHU students and faculty to build cooperation with NSU through the work of eight study circles dedicated to such diverse topics as international relations and human rights, interventions through artistic research, psychoanalysis, welfare, and others. NSU differs from the usual conferences by the spirit of a friendly research community and the informal atmosphere created by a combination of social events, cultural programs, research sessions in parallel study circles, a children's circle program, a daily morning newspaper, an excursions day, and democratic assemblies including representatives of Nordic and Baltic countries."
During the 2014 summer session in Iceland, it was also announced that the next NSU summer session will be held in July of 2015 in Druskininkai, Lithuania.
Founded in 1950, NSU is a network of leading academics, politicians, and intellectuals from all the Nordic countries, and is the leading forum for interdisciplinary research debates.
The EHU and NSU partnership began in the summer of 2013 in Norway. A joint ad hoc session was organized at EHU in Vilnius in the spring of 2014, in which twenty participants from Nordic region universities and Eastern European countries presented papers on the topics of human rights and international relations.
